Seduced by the Past

Seduced by the past
Threatened by the present
Estranged from the future

At times we get lost in the past
We forget that tomorrow offers a new day
We can't move on while those memories last
Frozen in time, a high price to pay
Not wanting to remember
Unable to forget
We hang on to what needs to go
Not wanting to hurt
We run and hide
Afraid to open a new door
All emotions we once had are now fried
There is no future in the past
A prisoner of the mind we have become
That part must be buried at long last
Learn to love without shame
